SPOKANE, Wash. – The Gonzaga men's soccer team hosted University of the Pacific and came up short, 2-1, on Luger Field.
Pacific got on the board first in the 19th minute as Ryan Her found the back of the net in the bottom left corner.
Derick Roque increased UOP's lead in the 22nd minute with an assist by Samuel Villata. During the same play, goalkeeper
Johan Garibay got injured and
Stuart Heringer came in for the Zags for the first team this season.
In the first half, the Tigers outshot Gonzaga 7-3 with four of those shots being on goal for UOP. Pacific also had all three corners in the first half.
Wylie Trujillo recorded two of those shots for Gonzaga.
In the second half, GU's
Logan Dorsey was awarded a penalty kick after UOP committed a hand ball inside the box. Dorsey scored on the opportunity to cut Gonzaga's deficit to 2-1 in the 86th minute.
Overall, Gonzaga outshot Pacific 13-10 with four of those being on goal in the second half alone. Dorsey led the team with six shots and recorded all four of the team's shots on goal.
Records: The Zags fall to 4-9-1 on the year and 0-2-1 in the conference. Pacific 2-8-2 and 1-1-1 in WCC play.
