Men's Soccer Tie With Santa Clara, 2-2

Wylie Trujillo scores the tying goal in the 86th minute

SANTA CLARA, Calif. – The Gonzaga men's soccer team continued West Coast Conference play at Santa Clara and tied with the Broncos, 2-2.
 
Demitrius Kigeya got things going right away for the Zags by scoring in the 38th second of the game. This marked Kigeya's third goal of the year as he now leads the Zags in scores so far this season.
 
Gonzaga held its lead until the 15th minute when Santa Clara's Pierce Dyal scored in the top right of the goal with the assist coming from Jesse Anamoo.
 
In the 38th minute, Santa Clara's Caden Buckley received a red card, which gave Gonzaga a one player advantage for the remainder of the game.
 
After 45 minutes of play, GU and Santa Clara remained tied at 1-1.
 
The game stayed tied until the 85th minute when SCU's Chase Weiner scored at the top of the net. The score was assisted by Tyrone Kirunda and Eduardo Lopez Perez.
 
Gonzaga quickly responded with a goal from Wylie Trujillo in the 86th minute. Loic Baures and Kigeya recorded the assists as Trujillo scored from the middle of the box to tie the game up at 2-2. 

After 90 minutes, the game remained tied at 2-2. This marks GU's first tie of the season and its first one since the 2019 season, which was also against SCU.
 
Overall, both teams took 11 shots on the night with the Bulldogs taking seven shots on goal. Kigeya took a team-high five shots with three of those being on goal. Dorsey was right behind him with four shots and two on goal as Trujillo and Baures recorded the two other shots for Gonzaga.
 
Johan Garibay made four saves for GU and the Zags recorded eight corner kicks compared to SCU's two.
 
Records: The Gonzaga Bulldogs move to 4-7-1 overall and 0-1-1 in the WCC. The Broncos now sit at 3-2-4 overall and 0-0-2 in the conference. This is also only the third game this season that SCU has allowed more than one goal in a contest.
 
In the 40 games played against the Broncos, this is only the sixth tie in program history against Santa Clara.
