Zags Downed in Four at Pacific

STOCKTON, Calif. — Gonzaga Volleyball tied things up heading into the third set but ultimately fell in four (19-25, 25-18, 22-25, 14-25) to Pacific in the second game of its final road swing at the Alex G Spanos Center on Saturday afternoon.

The Bulldogs (6-22, 2-15 WCC) were led with nine kills apiece from Alyssa Hughes and Zoe Thiros, with Kennedy Croft adding six more. Hughes' four blocks and .313 hitting percentage led the team, and Thiros connected on one of the Zags' pair of service aces.

Croft picked up a team-high ten digs ahead of three other Zags who finished with nine, and Keau Kamake'eaina produced 22 of GU's 24 assists.

Despite 11 kills in the first set from the Zags, Pacific took 1 6-1 lead early and held on through the rest of the set while hitting .316 to take a 1-0 lead. The Bulldogs bounced back in the second, capitalizing on 15 Tigers attack errors while only committing one on their end, going on a seven-point run after a Pacific kill cut their lead to 17-16 to close out strong and tie it at one set apiece.

The Tigers suppressed a comeback over the next two sets, however, holding GU to just 10 kills in that span while putting up a game-high 17 in the third to go with three aces. The Zags managed to keep Pacific from getting a kill until the final three points in a decisive fourth, but the Tigers picked up three in succession to close out the set and seal the victory.
