Box Score SPOKANE, Wash. – The Gonzaga women's soccer team completed the regular season with a 2-0 shutout victory over Portland on Senior Night at Luger Field Saturday.
The Zags (10-3-5, 5-1-3 West Coast Conference) matched their best WCC finish in program history and reached 10 wins in season for the 10
th time. It's the fifth time in the last six seasons GU has won 10 matches in a season, with the exception being the shortened season in the spring of 2021. It was the best conference finish by winning percentage in program history.
The Bulldogs outshot Portland 17-13, with a 9-5 advantage in shots on goal. GU took 13 corner kicks, while Portland had three. The Zags possessed the ball for 60 percent of the match, on the attacking side of the field for 66 percent of the possession.
Gonzaga's Hannah Gray opened the scoring in the 15
th minute with a strike from distance. The freshman's third goal of the season came off Willow Collins' third assist of the season.
In the 34
th minute, Paige Alexander headed in a corner kick from Kelsey Oyler. Alexander found the back of the net for the second time this season with the header at the near post.
The Bulldogs'
Lyza Bosselmann recorded her 20
th career shutout in the net, which is second all-time at GU. Bosselmann tops the program's Top-10 in fewest goals allowed in season (13 in 2022) and in a career (47 since 2019). The senior is also first all-time at GU in career goals against average. She made a season-high five saves Saturday.
Bre Norris made seven saves for Portland. Nedya Sawan led all players with eight shots in the match, with four on goal. The Pilots (11-4-4, 5-4-0 WCC) entered the game receiving votes in the national rankings.
Prior to the game, Gonzaga honored 10 seniors that played their final match at Luger Field. The 2022 class is the winningest by percentage over a four-year span in program history.
