No. 22 WBB Closes Out Non-Conference Schedule on Wednesday Against Montana

THE TIPOFF
- The Gonzaga women's basketball team closes out the non-conference schedule this Wednesday, Dec. 21 against Montana. Tipoff is slated for 6 p.m. and will be televised locally on SWX.
- GU is coming off a 70-59 win over San Diego on Dec. 19 and improves to 2-0 in the WCC. Four Zags scored in double figures, led by Kaylynne Truong's 20 points. Yvonne Ejim and Brynna Maxwell both scored 13 with Eliza Hollingsworth also adding 10. Gonzaga won the rebounding battle by grabbing 46 compared to USD's 36. Ejim grabbed a team-high nine with Hollingsworth also tallying eight.
- The Zags have four players currently averaging double digits in the first 13 games of the season, including Yvonne Ejim (16.1), Kaylynne Truong (15), Brynna Maxwell (14.2), and Eliza Hollingsworth (10.5). 
- Truong has scored at least 20 points in four games so far this year. Most recently she scored a career-high 24 points against BYU, followed by 20 points against San Diego. 
- The Bulldogs are currently shooting at a program record 80.3 percent from the free throw line, which also ranks fourth in the country and first in the West Coast Conference. Brynna Maxwell leads the team individually with 97.5 percent, which is second in the nation 
- Brynna Maxwell has made a three-pointer in every game so far this season. Maxwell is shooting 50.7 percent from the three-point line to rank first in the West Coast Conference and 14th nationally.
- As a team, the Bulldogs are shooting 39.2 percent from beyond the arc, which is currently ranked ninth in the nation and first in the WCC. 
- Gonzaga is currently undefeated in the Kennel this year at 7-0. The average margin of victory between the seven games has been 22.9 points. The largest win was against Southern Utah, when the Zags won 91-38 on Nov. 12. The 53-point win is the second-highest margin of victory in head coach Lisa Fortier's tenure.
- The Bulldogs were picked to win the West Coast Conference. The Zags received nine first-place votes that and totaled 81 points in the poll. 
- Gonzaga has amassed a conference record of 257-33 (.886) during the last 17 seasons, which includes 16 West Coast Conference regular-season titles and nine WCC Tournament championships.
- Seniors Kayleigh Truong, Kaylynne Truong and junior Yvonne Ejim were also named to the Preseason All-WCC Team. Ejim is the reigning WCC Sixth Woman of the Year while also receiving All-WCC Second Team in 2021-22. Kayleigh Truong earned All-WCC First Team honors after her performance in 2021-22.  Kaylynne Truong was named to the WCC Tournament team along with the Rainbow Wahine Showdown MVP as she was ranked third on the team in scoring last year.
- Last season, the Zags advanced to the NCAA Tournament for the fifth-straight year under head coach Lisa Fortier.

THE SERIES
SERIES INFO: This will be the 34th matchup between the two programs with the series dating back to 1981. Montana holds a slight 17-16 edge over GU, but Montana hasn't won in the series since 2007.    
STREAK: Gonzaga - 9    
FIRST MEETING: The Lady Griz defeated Gonzaga at home, 82-55, in 1981.     
LAST MEETING: The Bulldogs traveled to Missoula just last year and won 67-60. The last time Montana has been to the Kennel was in 2021, when GU won 58-51.  

SCOUTING THE GRIZ
- The Griz are currently 4-6 overall and is coming off a 87-56 win over Montana Tech on Dec. 18. 
- Montana shot 50 percent to match a season high in their last game. The Lady Griz also shot 50 percent in their 82-77 home win over North Dakota in November.
- Montana had five players in double figures for the second time this season. Five players were in double figures against North Dakota.
- Despite coming off the bench in all 10 games this season, Stump has led or matched for the team high in scoring five times. Over the last six games, Stump is averaging 12.7 points while going 30 for 55 (.545) from the field, 11 for 23 (.478) from the arc.
- Fatkin leads the team with seven double-figure scoring performances through 10 games. … Huard has gone 9 for 16 (.563) from 3-point range the last three games.
- Montana went 6 for 28 (.214) from the arc against Montana Tech after going 30 for 63 (.476) the previous three games.
