Box Score LOGAN, Utah - The Zags stay undefeated moving to 5-0 on the season after a come-from-behind, 4-3, victory over Utah State on the road. The Zags found themselves climbing uphill early, but thanks to late heroics from Graduate Tom Hann and Junior Leon Roider the Zags came away with the win.
"I am really proud of this team. I thought we did an excellent job of staying focused and determined, especially when we were not playing our best" stated head coach DJ Groule after the victory. "Utah State Is a very good team, they compete for everything. This is a solid victory for the team."The match started with a Utah State sweep in the doubles matches with the duo of Sasha Trkulja and Leon Roider falling to Jack Ninteman and Javier Ruiz, 6-4. That followed with a crushing defeat of Oliver Andersson and Pablo Gomez Galvan 7-5, from Utah States David Cierny and Bodin Zarkovic. Because of Utah winning the first two doubles matches, the duo of Tom Hann and Arthus de la Bassetiere's match went unfinished at 5-5. This put Utah State up 1-0 going into singles.
In the singles matches, Arthus de la Bassetiere made quick work of Sergi Mico Fenollar, sweeping him 6-0, 6-2 to pull the match back to even at 1-1.
That match was followed by a devastating loss by Oliver Andersson at the hands of Bodin Zarkovic by the score of 6-3, 3-6, 4-6, giving Utah State a lead again, 2-1.
Sasha Trkulja would have the third finish of the day, fighting hard and sweeping David Cierny 7-6, 6-4 and tying the match back up at 2-2.
Matthew Hollingworth then fell to Felipe Acosta 2-6, 6-4, 6-7 [4] leaving Utah State one match away from victory and Roko Savin currently leading Tom Hann 2-0 in the third and final set.
But from that point, Hann went on to win six straight games to take the match 6-4, 0-6, 6-2, tying it again at 3-3 and having the game come down to the final matchup of Leon Roider and Maksymilian Raupuk.
Roider, up 1-0 in sets and 5-1 in the last set, was mobbed by his teammates as Raupuk's return sailed long and the Zags earned the hard fought victory 4-3.
