SPOKANE, Wash. – Gonzaga men's and women's track opened the outdoor season with seven overall wins and 25 top-five finishes at the Sam Adams Classic at Whitworth University, with the GU women getting a pair of program records and three GU men's runners beating the meet record in the 5000m.
Elisabeth Danis led a sweep of the Top Six in the 3000m, finishing in 9:47.12 to beat the field by more than 26 seconds to take first place.
Emily Phelps (10:13.47), Georgi Brady (10:25.82),
Alexi Fogo (10:27.95),
Sadie Tuckwood (10:28.82) and
Jasmine Nguyen (10:29.95) all finished in succession behind Danis to take places two through six.
Jillian Greene placed first overall in the 800 with a time of 2:16.95 and followed that up with another win in the 1500, finishing in 4:35.37 to win by over six seconds. Those times both rank ninth in program history in their respective races.
Morgan Greene took second in the 800m (2:17.65) and
Brittney Hansen matched her with a second-place finish in the 1500m (4:41.57).
Ellie Armbruster set a new program-best in the 400m with a second-place time of 57.77 seconds, building off an indoor season that saw her claim the fastest times in program history in the 200, 400 and 600. She was also part of a record-setting 4x400 relay team that took first with a all-time best time of 4:01.92, along with
Morgan Greene,
Alyssa Bienfang and
Jillian Greene.
Ava Prunier-Herman ran the fastest 100m race in program history (12.91 seconds) en route to a third-place finish, finishing sixth in the 200m to lead the Zags with a time of 27.16 seconds.
2021 NCAA Qualifier
Ben Hogan took the overall win in the 2K steeplechase (5:54.21), followed by
Cooper Laird (5:59.75) and
Jaxon Mackie (6:02.98) for an all-Zags Top Three.
The GU men dominated the 5K, with
Evan Bates (14:17.49),
Kyle Radosevich (14:18.31) and
Riley Moore (14:24.25) all breaking the meet record of 14:30.45 while finishing in succession.
Dominic Arce (14:33.81) finished fourth, and
Aidan Baughan (15:00.89) and
Jeremiah Mackie (15:01.21) rounded out the top ten with ninth- and tenth-place finishes. GU placed 11 runners in the event's top 20.
