MTEN: Bulldogs Lose Close One to Denver, 4-3

The Zags stay on the road this week and travel to California

DENVER, Colo. – The Zags battled, but came up short against the University of Denver in a 4-3 loss.
 
Today's match started with a doubles win for Gonzaga, as Sasha Trkulja and Matthew Hollingworth defeated Denver's Peter Sallay and Mattia Ros with a 6-2 win on court one. In the No. 2 spot, Denver's Matt Summers and Charlie Miller defeated Gonzaga's Pablo Gomez Galvan and Oliver Andersson 6-3. Denver's Daniel Krulig and Nico Herrero clinched the doubles point for Denver on court three by defeating Gonzaga's Tom Hann and Arthus Bassetiere 7-6.
 
Moving to the singles matches down 1-0, Bassetiere helped Gonzaga earn their first point with a 6-2, 6-0 win over Ros on court four. However, Denver quickly reclaimed their lead with a win on the No. 1 spot by Cuesta over Trkulja in straight sets.
 
Gonzaga again tied the team score with the help of Hann's 6-2, 6-3 win over Miller on court five. The lead yet again swung to Denver, as Krulig defeated Galvan 7-5, 6-1 on court six.
 
With Denver now leading 3-2 overall, the match was clinched when Sallay defeated Andersson 4-6, 6-2, 6-3 on court three. The match was complete after Hollingworth defeated Summers 6-2, 2-6, 1-0 (10-8) on court two.
 
Up next: The Zags continue their five-game road trip, as they take on Boston College on Tuesday, March 8th. The match is set for 11 a.m. at the Lakewood Tennis Center in Lakewood, California. The Zags will return to the Stevens Center on Friday, March 18th, when they face the University of Montana.
