SPOKANE, Wash. – The Gonzaga men's tennis team faced Santa Clara University earlier today, and only dropped one set in route to earning the 4-0 victory. The Zags have outscored their competition 33-2 in their last seven matches.
Starting with the doubles competition, Gonzaga claimed an early lead when Leon Roider and Tom Hann defeated SCU's Guillaume Dalmasso and Santiago Hinojosa 6-2 on court two.
In the No.1 spot, Gonzaga clinched the doubles point when Sasha Trkulja and Matthew Hollingworth earned a 6-3 victory against SCU's Arthur Neuhaus and Mann Shah. Gonzaga's Oliver Andersson and Theo McDonald's court three match against SCU's James Bell and Nick Cmager went unfinished, as the doubles competition had already been clinched by Gonzaga.
As the singles competition began, Gonzaga extended their lead when Pablo Galvan Gomez claimed a 6-2, 6-1 court six victory over SCU's Ryan Ali.
In the No.5 spot, Gonzaga's lead increased when Roider defeated Hinojosa 6-3, 6-1. The match was clinched for Gonzaga after Hann earned a 6-1, 7-5 win against Bell on court four. This marks the fifth-straight match that Hann clinched the match for the Bulldogs.
All other matches went unfinished, as Gonzaga had clinched the 4-0 sweep.
Up next: The Gonzaga men's tennis team is away against Loyola Marymount on Saturday, April 8th at 11 a.m. In their last six matchups, the Bulldogs are 3-3 against Loyola Marymount.
