MTEN: Zags Earn 4-3 Comeback Victory Against LMU, Increase Winning Streak to Eight

The Bulldogs will travel to Pepperdine tomorrow

LOS ANGELES, Calif. – In one of the most competitive matches of the season, the Gonzaga men's tennis team came back from a 3-1 deficit to defeat Loyola Marymount 4-3. This extends the Zags winning streak to eight, which also includes a four-game winning streak against WCC opponents. 

Today's doubles competition opened with LMU's Charles Roberts and Thien Nguyen defeating Gonzaga's Sasha Trkulja and Matthew Hollingworth 6-2 on court one.

The doubles point was clinched for LMU when Emin Torlic and Austin Di Giulio claimed the 6-3 court three victory over Gonzaga's Oliver Andersson and Theo McDonald. In the No.2 spot, Gonzaga's Leon Roider and Tom Hann's match against LMU's Jose Dominguez and Toky Ranaivo went unfinished after LMU had clinched the doubles point. 

Moving to the singles competition, LMU extended their lead to 2-0 when Dominguez defeated Hollingworth 6-1, 6-3 in the No. 2 spot. Gonzaga earned their first team point of the match when Hann claimed the 7-6, 7-5 court five victory over Torlic. LMU captured another team point when Di Giulio earned the win over Roider 7-5, 6-4 on court six.  

Facing a 3-1 deficit in team points, Trkulja shortened LMU's lead when he defeated Dane Esses 6-3, 3-6, 6-3 on court one.

On court three, the event was tied when Andersson claimed the 5-7, 6-4, 6-4 win over LMU's John Otico.

Arthus De La Bassetiere clinched the match for Gonzaga when he earned the 6-7, 6-2, 7-6 win over Pantino on court four. 

Up next: For the Gonzaga men's tennis team, their next match is at #22 Pepperdine University on Sunday, April 10 at 1 p.m. Gonzaga earned their first victory against the Pepperdine men's tennis team during the 2018-19 season, when they earned the 4-3 win at the Stevens Center on April 5th, 2019. The Zags return to the Stevens Center to face Pacific University on Friday, April 15th at 2 pm.
