Anderson and Danis Compete in Final Day at West Prelims

Alicia Anderson and Elisabeth Danis run in 1500 and 5000m races

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Gonzaga's Alicia Anderson and Elisabeth Danis wrapped up competition for the Zags at the 2022 NCAA West Preliminary Round at the University of Arkansas Saturday.
 
Anderson placed 23rd in the women's 1,500-meter national quarterfinal. The sophomore crossed the line at 4:44.43, which was 12th in the second of two heats. The top five finishers from both heats, along with the next two best times, advanced to the national semifinals in Eugene, Ore. Stanford's Julia Heymach had the best time Saturday at 4:16.34. The top three times all came from the second heat.
 
Anderson qualified for the quarterfinal after running a personal record of 4:18.53 in the first round of the event Thursday.
 
In the 5,000 meters, Danis finished 43rd with a time of 17:21.91. She placed 21st in the second of two heats. The top five finishers from each heat plus the next two best times advanced to the national final. Colorado's Abby Nichols placed first at 15:49.51.
 
Danis' seed time of 16:09.07 from the Bryan Clay Invite ranked as the second-fastest in program history and 27th in the field.
 
Gonzaga men's runner James Mwaura qualified for the 10,000-meter national finals with a 12th-place finish in the semifinals Wednesday. The 10,000-meter national final is scheduled for 7:08 p.m. Pacific Time on June 8.
