SPOKANE, Wash. – Texas completed a two-goal comeback and defeated Gonzaga women's soccer, 3-2, at Luger Field Sunday.
The Longhorns (3-1-1) trailed 2-0 in the 57
th minute before reeling off three goals in the final 32 minutes for the road win. Both teams took 15 shots in front of a large crowd, with five shots on goal each. Texas had a slim 53 percent edge in possession. The Longhorns also had an 8-2 advantage in corner kicks.
Gonzaga's
Marissa Garcia opened the scoring just three minutes into the match. She found the back of the net for the second time this season after volleying in a cross from
Giana Riley. It was Riley's first collegiate assist and Garcia's sixth career goal.
In the 57
th minute,
Erin Healy gave GU (1-2-2) a 2-0 lead, chipping in a shot over the Longhorns' keeper. It was Healy's second goal of the season and 17
th in her career. Kemp recorded her third assist of the season and eighth in her career.
Less than a minute later, Trinity Byars struck in her third goal of the season for Texas. Jilly Shimkin was credited with the assist. Liz Worden tied the match in the 67
th minute, kicking in a loose ball in the box. Ashlyn Miller had the assist. Emily Jane Cox's second goal of the season in the 74
th minute was the game-winner. Miller was given her second assist of the game.
Savannah Madden made three saves in the Longhorns' net, while
Lyza Bosselmann had two for the Bulldogs. Garcia finished with a game-high two shots on goal. She, Healy and
Hannah Gray all took three shots for GU.
