Gaels Turn Away Women’s Soccer in Moraga, 1-0

Zags held scoreless despite outshooting SMC 24-8

Box Score MORAGA, Calif. – Saint Mary's defense thwarted the nation's top-scoring Gonzaga women's soccer offense in a 1-0 Gael victory Saturday.
 
The Gaels (7-5-2, 1-3-0 West Coast Conference) scored late in the first half and then held off several Bulldog opportunities. GU had won the last five meetings between the programs.
 
Saint Mary's Emily Jensen struck in third goal of the season in the 33rd minute. Her goal in the top center of the net was off assists by Makena Carr and Kyllie Glock.
 
The Zags (10-3-1, 3-1-0 WCC) forced Taylor Poland into 10 saves in the SMC net. Gonzaga outshot the Gaels 24-8, with a 10-3 advantage in shots on goal. Four of Maddie Kemp's match-high five shots were on goal for GU. Giana Riley contributed with four shots.
 
Lauren Towne made two saves for the Bulldogs. GU had a 5-2 advantage in corner kicks in the match.
 
Gonzaga is at Pacific (7-6-1, 1-2-0) Wednesday at 7 p.m. The game will be broadcast on ESPN Plus with live stats on GoZags.com.
