MISSOULA, Mont. – In the regular season opener, Gonzaga had four players score in double figures to defeat Montana, 83-70, on the road.
Kaylynne Truong led the way with 19 points and a team-high six assists.
Yvonne Ejim scored 17 points with eight rebounds as
Eliza Hollingsworth nearly had a double double with 16 points and a team-leading nine rebounds.
Kayleigh Truong rounded out the double digit scoring effort with 11 points and six rebounds.
In the first quarter, Gonzaga outscored the Griz, 24-14.
Kayleigh Truong led the way with six points after going 2-for-3 from the three-point line. The Zags forced eight turnovers in the opening 10 minutes and scored 10 points off those.
The Bulldogs held Montana to zero field goals in over four minutes of the second quarter to maintain a four-point lead going into halftime, 32-28. Ejim scored half of GU's point in the second frame as the Zags held Montana to a 21.1 shooting percentage.
At the half, Montana outrebounded GU, 22-18, as Hollingsworth grabbed a team-high five. Gonzaga also made five three-pointers in the opening half and held Montana to only two.
Gonzaga came out of the locker room and outscored the Griz 21-19 to take a 53-47 lead at the end of the third. Hollingsworth led the team with seven points as she went 3-for-4 from the floor. Gonzaga took control of the boards in the third by grabbing 13 rebounds compared to Montana's eight.
The Zags erupted on offense in the fourth quarter and scored 30 points, led by
Kaylynne Truong's 14. As a team, GU shot at 73.3 percent from the floor in the fourth quarter and went 6-for-6 from the charity stripe.
Overall, Gonzaga shot at 47.7 percent and scored nine three-pointers. Defensively, GU held the Griz to a 41.4 shooting percentage and outrebounded Montana 39-33. The Zags scored 32 points in the paint and also scored 17 points off turnovers.
Records: The Bulldogs are now 18-17 against Montana and have won the last 11. Head coach
Lisa Fortier now improves to 7-0 against the Griz.
The last time GU scored 30 points in a quarter was against LMU on Dec. 31, 2022.
