SPOKANE, Wash. -- The Gonzaga women's tennis team faced the University of Colorado earlier this morning. Today's matchup marks the third meeting between Gonzaga and Colorado in program history, with the two previous meetings occurring in the 2006 and 2021 seasons.
Today's match opened with a very competitive doubles competition. On court three, Gonzaga's
Kianna Oda and
Rose Hayes picked up a 6-3 victory against Colorado's Betina Tokac and Ellen Puzak. Oda and Hayes' victory marks the fourth doubles win for the pair this season. Colorado tied the doubles competition when Elys Ventura and Mila Stanojevic defeated Gonzaga's
Jenna Sloan and
Tiegan Aitken 6-4 in the No.2 spot. This is only the second time this season that Sloan and Aitken have lost in doubles competition. Colorado clinched the doubles point when Antonia Balzert and Aya El Sayed earned a 6-4 court one win over Gonzaga's
Cate Broerman and
Adrianna Sosnowska.
In the singles competition, Colorado earned their second team point of the day when Tokac defeated Hayes 6-1, 6-1 on court five. Even with today's singles loss, Hayes' record in singles competition is 4-1 this season. Shortly after, Stanojevic earned a 7-5, 6-3 court three win over Sloan. In the No.1 spot, Gonzaga earned their first team point of the day when Broerman claimed a 7-6, 6-4 win over Balzert. Broerman is now 4-1 in her singles matches this season.
On court six, Aitken earned an impressive 6-4, 2-6, 6-3 comeback victory over Colorado's Cami Hayes. Colorado clinched the team victory when El Sayed defeated Oda 6-4, 7-6 on court four. The court five match between Sosnowska and Ventura went unfinished, as the 4-2 team victory had already been clinched by Colorado.
Up Next: Following today's loss, the Zags will head to Atlanta, as they face Georgia Tech on February 18th and Georgia State on February 19th. Gonzaga will return to the Stevens Center on February 25th, when they will face Boise State at 11 am.
