MTEN: Gonzaga Falls to Oregon, 5-2

The Zags go on the road next week

EUGENE, Ore. – The Gonzaga men's tennis team faced the University of Oregon earlier this afternoon. Originally scheduled to face UC Irvine and UCLA this weekend, Gonzaga added today's matchup against Oregon after these matches were canceled due to poor weather conditions.

Today's matchup opened with one of the most competitive doubles competitions of the season. On court three, Gonzaga's Tom Hann and Pablo Gomez Galvan earned a 6-4 victory against Oregon's Luke Vandecasteele and Avi Shugar. Oregon tied the doubles competition when Joshua Charlton and Quinn Vandecasteele defeated Gonzaga's Sasha Trkulja and Matthew Hollingworth, winning 7-5 on court one. In the No.2 spot, the Zags clinched the doubles point when Leon Roider and Arthus Bassetiere claimed a 7-5 win over Oregon's Ivailo Keremedchiev and Ray Lo.

Moving to the singles competition, Gonzaga struggled to find success against an immensely talented Oregon men's tennis team. On court two, Quinn Vandecasteele earned Oregon their first team point of the day, defeating Bassetiere by a score of 7-6, 6-2. Shortly after, Charlton earned a 6-2, 6-4 court one victory against Trkulja. In the No.6 spot, Galvan battled, but dropped his match against Lo by a score of 6-4, 6-3.

Gonzaga earned their second team point of the day when Andersson defeated Keremedchiev by a score of 6-4, 3-6, 6-3 on court three. On court four, Oregon clinched the team victory when Jesper Klov-Nilsson earned a 6-4, 6-7, 6-0 victory against Hollingworth. In the final singles match of the day, Oregon's Vlad Breazu clinched a 6-3, 3-6, 6-3 win over Hann on court five.

Up next: Following today's loss, the Gonzaga men's tennis team remain on the road, as they will face the University of Arizona on March 4 and Northern Arizona on March 5. The Zags will return to Spokane on March 24, when they open conference play against BYU at the Stevens Center
