LINCOLN, Neb. -- Earlier this morning, the Gonzaga women's tennis team earned a dominant 7-0 victory over the University of North Dakota. This was the first time in program history that the Zags have faced North Dakota.
Opening with the doubles competition, the Zags picked up an impressive victory when Kianna Oda and Rose Hayes defeated North Dakota's Nore Heinitz and Jule Schulte by a score of 6-4 on court two. Gonzaga clinched the doubles point when Tiegan Aitken and Caroline Wernli claimed a 7-6 court three win over North Dakota's Charlotte Bowles and Nyah Kauders.
With the doubles point already clinched by the Zags, the court one match between Gonzaga's Adrianna Sosnowska and Cate Broerman and North Dakota's Adrea Jansson and Sapir Sela went unfinished, ending with a score of 5-6.
Moving to the singles competition, Gonzaga looked dominant against a talented North Dakota team. In the No.1 spot, #115 Broerman earned a 6-1, 6-2 victory against Kauders. Shortly after, Hayes glided to a 6-0, 6-1 court four win over Jansson. Gonzaga clinched the team victory when Wernli defeated North Dakota's Angela Georgieva 6-2, 6-2 on court six.
In the last three singles matches of the day, Gonzaga dominated, even after securing the team victory. On court two, Sosnowska clinched a 7-5, 6-3 victory against Sela. In similar fashion, Aitken defeated Schulte 6-2, 7-6 in the No.5 spot. The final singles match of the day saw Oda battle, and defeat Heinitz 6-1, 6-7, 10-7 on court three.
Up Next: Following today's impressive victory, the Gonzaga women's tennis team will return to the Stevens Center on February 11, when they will face Colorado at 9 a.m. This is the second straight season that the Zags will face Colorado in a non-conference dual match.
