Zag senior in running for nation’s top power forward award

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – Gonzaga's Drew Timme was named one of the 10 candidates for the 2023 Karl Malone Power Forward of the Year Award the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame announced Thursday.

Named after Class of 2010 Hall of Famer and two-time NBA Most Valuable Player Karl Malone, the annual honor in its eighth year recognizes the top power forwards in Division I men's college basketball. A national committee of top college basketball personnel determined the watch list of 20 candidates in November, which has now been narrowed to 10.

The senior is sixth in the conference grabbing 7.5 rebounds per game.

Timme won the Karl Malone Award in 2021 and was a finalist for last season's Kareem Abdul-Jabbar Center of the Year Award. Last season, Timme was named a John R. Wooden Award Player of the Year Finalist, Wooden All-American, and Second Team All-American by Sporting News, the Associated Press, NABC and USBWA.
