SPOKANE, Wash. – The Gonzaga men's tennis team opened their conference schedule with a 4-0 victory against BYU. Today's match marks Gonzaga's second straight victory against BYU, and three wins in the past four matches against the Cougars.
 
Gonzaga dominated as the match began with the doubles competition. On court one, Gonzaga's Sasha Trkulja and Matthew Hollingworth earned a 6-2 win over BYU's Wally Thayne and Zach Fuchs on court one. The Zags clinched the doubles point when Tom Hann and Pablo Gomez Galvan defeated BYU's Redd Owen and Brigham Andrus by a score of 6-2. Today's win also improves the doubles record for Hann and Gomez Galvan to an impressive 6-3 this season.
 
With the doubles point already clinched, the doubles match between Gonzaga's Leon Roider and Arthus Bassetiere and BYU's Jack Barnett and Dominik Jakovljevic went unfinished, ending with a score of 2-5.
 
Moving to the singles matches, Gonzaga expanded their lead when Hann picked up an impressive 6-1, 6-1 victory against Owen on court five. Shortly after, Hollingworth earned a 6-3, 6-4 court four win over Jakovljevic. In the No.6 spot, Gonzaga clinched the team victory when Gomez Galvan defeated Andrus, ending with a score of 6-3, 6-3.
 
Having already clinched the team victory, all other singles matches went unfinished. This is the first time in program history that the Zags have swept the Cougars.
 
Up next: Following today's match, the Gonzaga men's tennis team will remain in Spokane, as they are scheduled to face the University of San Diego on March 25th at 11 am. After tomorrow's match, the Zags will hit the road, as they will face the University of San Francisco on March 31st and Santa Clara on April 1st.

Records: The season record for the Zags improves to 6-6 with the win. For the Cougars, the loss drops their record on the year to 3-10. Today's match also moves the historical record between Gonzaga and BYU to 4-8 in favor of the Cougars.
