SPOKANE, Wash. – The Gonzaga women's tennis team continued their spring conference schedule with a match against Santa Clara this evening. Today's win marks the eighth consecutive victory against Santa Clara, five of which have been sweeps.
In the first doubles match of the day, Gonzaga got off to an early lead when
Adrianna Sosnowska and
Kianna Oda earned a 6-1 court one win over Santa Clara's Finley Kalinic and Giulia Hayer. Today's match marks the first time this season, and only the third time in their careers, that Sosnowska and Oda have paired for singles. Santa Clara tied the doubles competition when Dasee Carter and Kacey Feng defeated Gonzaga's
Tiegan Aitken and
Caroline Wernli by a score of 6-3 on court three.
In the No.2 spot, Gonzaga clinched the doubles point when
Cate Broerman and
Jenna Sloan picked up a 6-4 victory against Santa Clara's Jenna Marie Gordon and Velizara Fileva. Today's doubles match is only Broerman's fourteenth time in her career playing court two doubles, and the win improves her court two doubles record to 6-8.
In the singles competition, Gonzaga found success in every completed match. On court six, Gonzaga's
Rose Hayes built on her excellent freshman season with a 6-2, 6-0 victory over Feng. Gonzaga's lead expanded when Aitken claimed a 6-3, 6-0 court five win against Hayer. Gonzaga clinched the team victory when Oda defeated Fileva in the No.3 spot, ending with a score of 6-4, 6-2.
With Gonzaga having already clinched the team victory, all other singles matches went unfinished.
Up Next: Following today's win, the Zags will remain in Spokane, as they face the University of San Francisco on April 2 at 11 a.m. After Sunday's match, Gonzaga will travel to California to play Loyola Marymount on April 7 at 1 p.m. and Pepperdine on April 8 at 12 p.m.

Records: The season record for the Zags improves to 10-8 with today's win. For Santa Clara, their record on the year drops to 0-12 with the loss. The historical record between Gonzaga and Santa Clara also moves to 10-16 in favor of the Broncos.
