SPOKANE, Wash. -- Earlier this afternoon, the Gonzaga women's tennis team earned their second conference victory of the season with a 4-0 sweep over the University of San Francisco. Entering the competition, San Francisco was on a seven-game winning streak, including three straight victories against WCC opponents.
Gonzaga's
Cate Broerman and
Jenna Sloan helped Gonzaga open today's match in dominant fashion, defeating San Francisco's Chiho Mushika and Caragh Courtney by a score of 6-0 on court two. Gonzaga clinched the doubles point when
Rose Hayes and
Tiegan Aitken earned a 6-2 win over San Francisco's Arianna Capogrosso and Rita Colyer. Today's win marks the first time Aitken and Hayes have paired for the doubles competition this spring season.
With Gonzaga having already clinched the doubles point, the court one match between Gonzaga's
Kianna Oda and
Adrianna Sosnowska and San Francisco's Maria Martinez Vaquero and Simran Chhabra went unfinished, ending with a score of 4-5.
Moving to the singles competition, Gonzaga expanded their lead when Hayes picked up a 6-2, 6-2 victory over San Francisco's Hana Gamracy in the No.6 spot. With today's victory, Hayes is now 12-4 in her completed singles matches this spring season. On court three, Oda defeated Courtney by a score of 6-4, 6-4. Gonzaga clinched the team victory when Sloan earned a 7-5, 7-5 court four win against Chhabra.
Having already clinched the team victory, all remaining singles matches for the Zags went unfinished.
Up Next: Following today's match, the Zags will travel to California to face Loyola Marymount on April 7 at 1 p.m. The Zags will conclude their road trip on April 8, when they are scheduled to face Pepperdine at 12 p.m. Gonzaga will return to the Spokane on April 14th, when they will play Pacific at 1 p.m. in the Stevens Center.
