LOS ANGELES – Gonzaga's
Drew Timme was named to the 2022 Men's National Ballot for the John R. Wooden Award presented by Wendy's the Los Angeles Athletic Club announced Saturday on ESPN's College GameDay.
Selected by the Wooden Award National Advisory Board, the National Ballot consists of 15 student-athletes who are candidates for the Wooden Award All American Team and Wooden Award Trophy as the most outstanding college basketball player in the United States.
Timme, a Preseason All-American, was named First Team All-Conference the last two seasons, after being named All-Freshman in 2019-20. He tops the West Coast Conference averaging 21.1 points per game, and second shooting 61.8 percent from the field. The senior is fifth in the WCC grabbing 7.4 rebounds per game, and seventh blocking 0.9 shots per game.
Timme is third in the nation with 259 made field goals and is sixth with 654 points. He is 22 points from becoming Gonzaga's all-time leading scorer and currently has 2,175 points during his four seasons at GU. The Dallas native's 845 career rebounds rank sixth and his 108 blocks are eighth. Timme owns the record for most made field goals in GU history with 856, and his 61.8 career field goal percentage is third. He boasts a record of 116-12 (.901) in his Gonzaga appearances, going 57-4 (.934) in conference play.
All balloted players have been certified by their university to meet or exceed the qualifications for the Wooden Award as set forth by Coach Wooden when the Award was established. The qualifications include: candidates must exhibit strength of character, both on and off the court; candidates must be full-time students in an accredited NCAA college or university; candidates must be making progress toward graduation and have a cumulative 2.00 grade point average since enrolling in their school; candidates must contribute to team effort; candidates must excel in both offense and defense; and candidates should be considered on their performance over the course of the entire season.
Voting will take place from March 13 to March 20, and voters take into consideration a player's entire season of play, as well as the opening rounds of the NCAA Tournament. The finalists for the 2023 Wooden Award presented by Wendy's will be announced on March 29.
