SPOKANE, Wash. -- The Gonzaga women's tennis team continued their spring season with a doubleheader against the University of Idaho and Eastern Washington University. This is the Zags' second doubleheader of the season, with the first occurring on January 14th, when they defeated the University of Montana and Seattle University to open the spring season.
Opening their match against Idaho with a competitive round of doubles, the Zags shined against stiff competition. On court two, Gonzaga's Kianna Oda and Rose Hayes defeated Idaho's Jayanne Palma and Nicole Horacek by a score of 6-1. Shortly after, the Zags clinched the doubles point when Adrianna Sosnowska and Cate Broerman earned a 6-2 court one victory against Idaho's Lena Beckx and Annabel Davis.
With the doubles point already clinched by the Zags, the court three match between Gonzaga's Tiegan Aitken and Caroline Wernli and Idaho's Saffron Dowse and Rachelle Starreveld went unfinished, ending with a score of 3-3.
Gonzaga continued to dominate as the match transitioned to the singles competition. In the No.1 spot, Idaho tied the match when Davis defeated Broerman by a score of 6-3, 6-1. Gonzaga reclaimed the lead when Sosnowska earned a 6-1, 6-3 court two victory against Starreveld. After today's victory, Sosnowska is now 5-3 in her singles matches this season.
Oda helped Gonzaga expand their lead when she defeated Dowse by a score of 6-1, 6-3 on court three. Gonzaga clinched the team victory when Hayes claimed a 6-3, 6-1 win over Horacek in the No.5 spot. As Gonzaga had already earned the team victory against Idaho, all other singles matches went unfinished.
In Gonzaga's second match of the day, the Zags got off to a great start against Eastern Washington. In the No.1 spot, Broerman and Sosnowska earned a perfect 6-0 win over Eastern Washington's Isabella Foshee and Leandra Nizetic. This is the first time this season that Broerman and Sosnowska have won a doubles match without dropping a single game.
The Zags clinched the doubles point when Oda and Hayes defeated Eastern Washington's Renata Gabuzyan and Kenzington Mann 6-1 on court two. The final doubles match between Gonzaga's Tiegan Aitken and Caroline Wernli and Eastern Washington's Scout Mathews and Sara Vasic went unfinished on court three, ending with a score of 5-2.
After their strong performance in the singles competition, the Zags maintained dominance by winning three straight singles matches. In the No.1 spot, Broerman dominated, defeating Mathew by a score of 6-3, 6-2. Shortly after, Wernli earned a 6-1, 6-2 court six victory against Vasic. Gonzaga clinched the team victory when Sosnowska defeated Nizetic 6-2, 6-1 in the No.2 spot.
With the team victory already clinched by Gonzaga, all other singles matches went unfinished.
Up Next: Following today's matches, the Gonzaga women's tennis team will stay in Spokane, as they are scheduled to face Montana State on March 10th at 1 pm. The Zags will conclude their nonconference dual schedule when they travel to Louisiana to face Southeastern Louisiana, the University of Louisiana, and Tulane between March 14th and 18th.

Records: With today's victories, the season record for Gonzaga moves to 6-5. For Idaho, their record on the year drops to 2-7 with the loss. Also, the record for Eastern Washington drops to 2-6 with today's defeat.
The historical record between Gonzaga and Idaho moves to 10-13 in favor of the Vandals following today's win. Today's victory over Eastern Washington also moves the historical record between the Zags and the Eagles to 39-4.
