PALO ALTO, Calif. – Gonzaga Men's and Women's track wrapped up Day Two at Cobb Track and Angell Field at the Payton Jordan Invitational on Saturday, with
Sadie Tuckwood,
Yacine Guermali and
Wil Smith all putting down personal bests in the 1500m that rank moved them up in their respective program all-time Top 10 lists.
Sadie Tuckwood got things started for GU in the women's 1500m, placing seventh in the second heat with a 4:23.15 finish that moved her up to No. 3 on the program all-time Top 10. This marks three consecutive meets that she's put down a PR that's improved her standing in the record books after finishing in 4:27.63 at Bryan Clay last weekend and 4:28.58 at the Mike Fanelli Classic the week before.
Yacine Guermali and
Wil Smith followed with two more performances for the record books – Guermali improved his program record in the event with a 3:42.96 personal best, and Smith (3:43.82) PR'd for the second straight week to move up to No. 2 on the all-time list. Guermali closed out strong with a 0:57.98 split in his final 400m to finish fourth overall, with Smith just behind in fifth. Both times gained them some ground on the NCAA qualifying list – Guermali's time would rank No. 31 amongst NCAA West Region runners, with Smith's at No. 40.
Carp Mukai rounded out the Zags' day with a 12th-place finish overall (4:01.20).
