WTEN: Gonzaga Drops to #4 Pepperdine, 7-0

The Bulldogs return to the Stevens Center this Friday and Saturday

MALIBU, Calif. --  Earlier this afternoon, the Gonzaga women's tennis team had an away conference dual match against No. 4 Pepperdine University and fell 7-0. Coming into today's match, Pepperdine was on a nine-match win streak.
 
Opening with the doubles competition, Pepperdine's Anna Campana and Nikki Redelijk picked up a 6-0 court three victory against Gonzaga's Jenna Sloan and Caroline Wernli. In the No.1 spot, Pepperdine clinched the doubles point when Savannah Broadus and Janice Tjen earned a 6-1 win over Gonzaga's Kianna Oda and Adrianna Sosnowska.
 
With Pepperdine having already clinched the doubles point, the court two match between Gonzaga's Rose Hayes and Tiegan Aitken and Pepperdine's Bunyawi Thamchaiwat and Liza Zaar went unfinished, ending with a score of 2-5.
 
Pepperdine remained dominant during the singles competition. On court five, Redelijk defeated Hayes, ending with a score of 6-0, 6-0. In the No.2 spot, Zaar earned a 6-1, 6-0 win over Oda. Broadus also earned a singles victory, defeating Sloan on court three by a score of 6-0, 6-2.
 
In the final three singles matches, Gonzaga continued to battle against a talented Pepperdine squad. Campana earned another team point for the Waves when she defeated Wernli 6-3, 6-1 on court six. On court four, Thamchaiwat picked up a 6-3, 6-2 victory over Aitken. In the final singles match of the day, Sosnowska fought, but dropped a competitive match against Tjen by a score of 6-1, 4-6, 11-9 in the No.1 spot.
 
Up Next: After today's match, the Zags will return to Spokane to face Pacific on April 14 at 1 p.m., and Saint Mary's on April 15th at 12 p.m. for Senior Day. Gonzaga will then conclude their regular season with an away match against Portland on April 22nd at 10 am.

Records: The season record for Gonzaga drops to 11-10 following today's loss. For Pepperdine, the win improves their record for the year to 13-2. The historical record between Gonzaga and Pepperdine also moves to 0-21 in favor of the Waves.
