Cassie Kim is in a tie for 42
nd place after the first round of the NCAA Pullman Regional. The Zag senior carded a 73 (+1) at Palouse Ridge Golf Club Monday.
Kim was one-over through the first nine holes, starting on Hole 10, before an even-par final nine holes. She made four birdies and 10 pars on Day 1. The Yakima, Wash., native, was one-under (2.80) on the course's five Par-3 holes, which matched the third-best average in the 66-golfer field. She birdied twice on the Par-3 holes, and twice on Par-5 holes.
Kim is the first Bulldog playing in the NCAA Regionals since 2017.
Regional play is taking place May 8-10 at six regional sites, with a total of 396 student-athletes competing. All six regional sites will have 12 teams and six individuals. The top five teams (30 teams total) and the low individual not on an advancing team (six individuals total) from each regional site, 156 student-athletes total, will advance to play in the national championships to be played May 19-24 at Grayhawk Golf Club in Scottsdale, Ariz.
Top-ranked Stanford leads the 12-team field in Pullman after the first round. The Cardinal was 21-under (267) Monday, followed by No. 13 USC at 16-under (272). Stanford, USC and third-place Texas Tech (-11) all finished with the three lowest team totals across the six regionals around the nation in the first round.
Stanford's Rose Zhang and Sadie Englemann are tied atop the leaderboard at eight-under (64), with UC-Riverside's Tiffany Le right behind at seven-under (65). Four golfers are at six-under (66). The top seven scores in Pullman were the lowest across the six regionals around the country.
Tuesday's second round begins at 8 a.m. Kim will start on the 10
