SPOKANE, Wash. – Former Gonzaga women's soccer standout
Sophia Braun was named to Argentina's roster for the 2023 World Cup in Australia and New Zealand, which begins July 20.
Argentina coach German Portanova announced his 23-player squad and Braun will become the first Zag to appear in the Women's World Cup. La Albiceleste are preparing to compete at the global finals for the fourth time and will be captained by veteran goalkeeper Vanina Correa.
Argentina have been drawn in Women's World Cup Group G with Italy, Sweden and South Africa. Argentina opens the tournament against Italy on Fox Sports 1 and Peacock on July 23 at 11 p.m. Pacific Time.
Braun and her Argentinian national team won the third-place match at the 2022 Copa America. The 3-1 victory over Paraguay qualified Argentina for the 2023 Women's World Cup.
