ST. GEORGE, Utah. – Utah Tech scored the game-winning goal in the 89
th minute in a 2-1 victory over Gonzaga men's soccer Sunday.
The Trailblazers' (3-3-0) Austin Wallace found the back of the net for the third time this season, which leads the team, with less than two minutes in regulation. Bryce Backlund was given the assist.
The Bulldogs (2-2-4) entered the match on a three-game unbeaten streak, and nearly had their fourth consecutive 1-1 draw. GU possessed the ball for 58 percent of the match, but Utah Tech outshot the Zags 18-9. The Trailblazers had an 8-3 advantage in shots on goal.
Gonzaga's
Chris Swider opened the scoring in the eighth minute with his third goal of the season. Swider and
Leon Sitz both led the Bulldogs with three shots.
In the 27
th minute, Julian Herrera evened the score for Utah Tech off an assist by AJ Ciampini.
Wessel Sprangers made six saves in the GU net, while Stockton Short had two saves for the Trailblazers.
