SAN ANTONIO, Texas – Despite having six shots on goal, the Gonzaga men's soccer team came up short at Incarnate Word, 4-2.
Incarnate Word got on the board first with a goal from Timothy Ospina in the 20th minute to make it 1-0.
Stefano Campisi evened the game at 1-1 when he was successful on a penalty kick in the 36th minute. This marked his fourth goal this season.
Before the end of the first half, UIW scored to take the lead, 2-1, with a goal from Wilmar Aguilar.
The Bulldogs opened up scoring in the second half with a goal from
Nicholas Bianchi in the 61st minute. The goal was assisted by
Leon Sitz as the Zags tied it up at 2-2.
UIW responded in the 67th minute with a score from Sello Diphoko to give Incarnate Word a 3-2 lead. The Cardinals increased its lead in the 88th minute with a goal from Peleg Armendraiz to make it 4-2.
Overall, GU had nine shots with six of those being on goal.
Wessel Sprangers also made six saves on the day in net.
