Saint Mary’s Downs Volleyball 3-0

MORAGA, Calif. – Saint Mary's volleyball defeated Gonzaga with a 3-0 sweep Thursday evening inside University Credit Union Pavilion as the Zags kicked off a three-match road stint after five straight matches at home. The Gaels cruised to 25-12 and 25-14 wins in the first two sets before completing the sweep with a 25-11 win in set three.

Saint Mary's (5-8, 1-3 WCC) picked up their first West Coast Conference victory of the season in dominant fashion over Gonzaga (1-13, 0-4 WCC), collecting a .437 team hitting percentage while outhitting the Bulldogs 45-24 in kills.

Genevieve Bane was the match leader in kills with 13 while hitting at a .480 clip. She opened with five in the first as Saint Mary's used an immediate 10-0 run to make quick work of set one. Three kills in the second and five more in the third, including the final blow of the match concluded Bane's night, adding four digs and two blocks to her stat sheet.

Gonzaga was led by Taylor Walsh, who picked up ten kills on a .467 hitting percentage in yet another impressive offensive performance for the freshman middle. After opening with a perfect 5-for-5 line in the first, Saint Mary's found some success in defending Walsh but could not keep her from a new career-high and her first double-digit outing. Over her last five matches, Walsh is hitting 33-for-64 with just five errors, good for a .438 clip.
