GOLD RIVER, Calif. – The Gonzaga men's rowing team concluded its fall slate on Saturday at the Head of the American, finishing with a first-place boat in one flight and a pair of second-place crews in the others.
"Great performance by the whole team today," head coach Dan Gehn said. "The Varsity 8 was the topping on the day. Very nice to get back in the winners circle in the eights race."
With a time of 15:51.3, the Varsity 8 cruised to victory, crossing the finish line more than 20 seconds before Santa Clara (16:14.8). The Junior Varsity 8 (16:36.2) was in the same heat, coming in seventh out of 17 boats.
The Bulldogs had three crews in the collegiate fours, taking second (17:20.5), third (18:06.0), and 12th (19:30.9) out of 25 boats. San Diego won the flight in 17:11.0.
Gonzaga also claimed second place in the Novice 8 heat with a time of 17:33.8, while Santa Clara (16:28.7) took first.
The Head of the American, featuring nearly 50 different event categories, was hosted by the Sacramento State Aquatic Center at Lake Natoma.
