SPOKANE, Wash. – Gonzaga Women's Cross Country and Track & Field Head Coach
Jake Stewart announced the signing of Sophia Bazzi, Charlotte Dillon, Clare Mullin, and Emma Taggi Padró on Thursday. The four will arrive for the Fall 2025 season as the GU women continue their rise on the national stage in both cross country and track.
Sophia Bazzi | Seattle, Wash. | Holy Names Academy
Bazzi is an in-state signee out of Holy Names Academy, where she has earned podium finishes at both the WIAA 3A State Cross Country and Track & Field Championships, captaining two state-qualifying cross country teams in 2023 and 2024. This past weekend, Bazzi placed 21st at the state meet to lead Holy Names in a ninth-place team finish. As a junior, she finished seventh at the state track & field meet in the 3200-meters with a PR time of 10:50.80.
"I chose Gonzaga because I was really impressed by the emphasis on athlete development and the approach of caring for the whole athlete that I saw demonstrated on the team, and the overall school community seems amazing," Bazzi said.
Charlotte Dillon | Durham, England | Durham Johnston Comprehensive School
Dillon is the first of two international signees for the Zags, hailing from Durham, England, where she found success in both cross country and track & field. Earlier this year, Dillon was selected to compete at the European Under 20 5K Road Race in Italy, an event that plays host to some of Europe's best Under 20 athletes. Then in July, Dillon earned the individual title in the 10K Durham City Run Festival Race, running a PR of 35:48 before improving that time in October (35:32) at the RunThrough Jarrow event. Among a list of events in both cross country and track & field, Dillon owns a 5K PR of 16:42, a mark she set back in August of 2023.
"I chose Gonzaga because I love the location, the small and close-knit university feel and how friendly the team, coach and environment are," Dillon said. "I believe it will help me to improve both athletically and academically over the next 4 years."
Clare Mullin | Sitka, Alaska | Sitka HS
Mullin, the 2024 Alaska Track & Field Gatorade Player of the Year, signs with Gonzaga after a lustrous career for the Wolves. During her time at Sitka High School, Mullin won back-to-back Alaska 3A Cross Country State Titles and claimed eight Alaska D2 Track & Field Individual State Championships. Mullin's 1600-meter PR of earned her a fifth-place finish at the 2024 Nike Outdoor Nationals in the Emerging Elite Division. Her 4:56.11 in the same event won her the Region 5 Championship and placed herself fourth all-time in Alaska state history. In the 800-meters, Mullin owns a PR of 2:12.19.
"I knew immediately after my official visit that Gonzaga is the place I want to be," Mullin said. "I felt welcomed by so many companionate and hard-working athletes, coaches, and people and I know that I will get a great education and running experience at GU."
Emma Taggi Padró | Cambrils, Tarragona, Spain | Escola Elisabeth
Taggi Padró is the latest of four GU signees and is set to join her sister Maria, who signed with Gonzaga in the Fall of 2022. In her home country of Spain, Taggi Padró is experienced on the track, competing in events ranging from the 800-metets to the 3000-meters. She touts a personal best of 4:35.85 in the 1500m and 10:17.57 in the 3000m. At the 2023 Spanish U18 Indoor Championships, Taggi Padró placed sixth in the 1500m with a time of 4:48.37.
"I've chosen Gonzaga University for its high academic and athletic level, and for its values and the big sense of community," Taggi Padró said. "It would be a dream to grow in this University."
