WBB Takes Over New Mexico, 81-68

Yvonne Ejim had her 29th double double

ALBUQUERQUE N.M. – Yvonne Ejim nearly had a triple double with 26 points, 17 rebounds and eight assists, to help lead the Gonzaga women's basketball team to an 81-68 victory over New Mexico.

Two other Zags also scored in double figures. Maud Huijbens was the next leading scorer with 15 points, six rebounds and five assists. Ines Bettencourt also had 16 points after shooting at 50% from beyond the arc.

The Zags took a 38-34 halftime lead with Ejim scoring 14, grabbing nine rebounds and recording five assists. Huijbens also scored nine points and grabbed three rebounds. As a team, the Zags shot at 41.7% and 31.3% from the three.

The Zags held the Lobos to a 39% shooting performance and outrebounded New Mexico, 24-20. Destinee Hooks paced the Lobos with 10 points in the first half.

After having a competitive third quarter, the Zags closed out the second half by outscoring the Lobos, 24-15, in the final quarter. Esther Little made two clutch three-pointers to extend GU's lead late in the game.

Overall, Gonzaga shot at 45.3% from the floor and made 10 three-pointers. The Bulldogs held New Mexico to 42% overall and forced nine turnovers. GU dominated the glass, 46-28, and went almost perfect from the free throw line, 13-for-14.

Yvonne Ejim has now recorded 29 double doubles in her career and has scored double digits in 48-straight games. She has scored 1,776 points at Gonzaga. She nearly had a triple double as she had eight assists as well.

Claire O'Connor has made a three-pointer in every game this season.

Ejim has moved into third all-time in rebounds with 880. She passed Heather Bowman's mark of 874 and Ejim only needs 104 more rebounds this season to break the all-time record.
