ST. THOMAS, Virgin Islands – The Gonzaga women's basketball team wrapped up Paradise Jam with a 95-54 loss to Florida State.
Two Zags scored in double figures including
Yvonne Ejim with 20 and
Allie Turner with 13.
Claire O'Connor grabbed a team-high seven rebounds on the day.
At the end of the first quarter, GU trailed FSU, 28-12. The Seminoles shot 63.2% in the opening quarter as the Bulldogs was at 42.9%. Ejim scored a team-high six points as
Esther Little grabbed three rebounds in the first ten minutes.
The Zags went on an 8-0 run in the second quarter to include back-to-back three pointers from Turner to cut the deficit to 34-23 with just over seven minutes remaining in the half. The Bulldogs went on to outscore Florida State, 16-15, in the second quarter, to make it 43-28 at the half.
Gonzaga went on a 9-0 run in the third to make it 54-43, but FSU went on to outscore the Bulldogs 20-18, to make it 63-46. The Seminoles went on a 12-2 run in the middle of the fourth to secure their win.
Overall, GU shot 44% and FSU recorded 44%. The rebound battle was close as Florida State edged out GU, 34-32.
After scoring 51 points and grabbing 21 rebounds at the tournament, Ejim was also named to the All-Tournament Team.
Records: Ejim has now scored double digits in 51-straight games. She has scored 1,817 points at Gonzaga. This also marks the fifth time this season that she has scored 20 points or more in a game.
