LAS VEGAS, Nev. – The Gonzaga women's tennis team began the Watanabe Classic today with quarterfinal matches in doubles and singles.
All three Bulldog duos dropped opening-round bouts on Friday, as two pairings could not overcome tiebreakers. Emily Robertson/Safien Boulonois and Norhan Hesham/Ella Nielsen each came up short in tiebreakers, while Rose Hayes/Brooke Bittner fell 6-2.
In singles, Robertson (6-1, 6-3), Hayes (6-3, 6-2), and Boulonois (6-3, 6-1) advanced to the semifinals by triumphing in straight sets. Falling in the quarterfinals were Hesham, Nielsen, Bittner, and Savannah Johnson.
During the fall season, Gonzaga women's tennis has an 18-19 record in doubles matches and a 38-41 showing in singles.
Up next: The Bulldogs continue the Watanabe Classic through Sun. Nov. 10 at UNLV's Fertitta Tennis Complex. Robertson, Hayes, and Boulonois each play in singles semifinal matches on Saturday.
