SPOKANE, Wash. – The Gonzaga women's basketball team closed out the non-conference slate with a 79-50 win over local foe, Eastern Washington.
Yvonne Ejim paced the Zags with an impressive 28-point performance.
Allie Turner also recorded 19 and
Claire O'Connor scored 18.
Gonzaga took an 11-point lead just five minutes into the game as they went on a 7-0 run. The Bulldogs took the 19-14 lead after one quarter.
The Zags were led by Ejim with 16 points and the Zags took the 32-27 lead going into halftime. Huijbens had a team-high six rebounds with Gonzaga outrebounding overall, 23-19.
The Bulldogs shot 37.1% from the floor and held EWU to 33.3%. Gonzaga also forced eight turnovers and only allowed one three-pointer from the Eags.
GU came out firing in the third quarter and outscored EWU, 26-14. O'Connor had 11 points for Gonzaga and went 3-for-3 from beyond the arc.
The Bulldogs closed out the game by shooting 69.2% in the fourth quarter and outscoring the Eags, 21-9. Turner went 3-for-3 from the three-point line to extend GU's total to 12 three-pointers. Defensively, Gonzaga held EWU to 20% and zero threes in the final 10 minutes.
Overall, the Zags outrebounded Eastern, 46-30.
Esther Little led the team with nine rebounds with McKynnlie Dalan right behind her with eight. Gonzaga only allowed one three-pointer in the whole game from EWU as the Eagles shot 32% overall, compared to GU's 49.2%. Gonzaga went 50% from beyond the arc as well.
Notes: Ejim has now scored double digits in 53-straight games. She has scored 1,867 points at Gonzaga. This also marks the seventh time this season that she has scored 20 points or more in a game.
Gonzaga has won 19-straight against Eastern Washington.
