SPOKANE, Wash. – Gonzaga University Volleyball Head Coach
Katie Wilson announced her resignation, stepping down as the head coach of the Bulldog volleyball program effective immediately.
Wilson concluded her third season as the GU head coach in 2024 after arriving in December of 2021.
"After 25-plus years of coaching volleyball, the last ten in Division-I, my passion has always been teaching and developing players," Wilson said. "When you know in your heart it's your time, it's your time. It's time for me to step back from coaching and pour into my family. Gonzaga is a special place, and I continue to wish the players continued growth and success."
During her three seasons, Gonzaga saw single-match and season records broken, notably behind the service stripe. Four Bulldogs notched top ten single-season service ace records under Wilson. In addition, GU recorded the most (179, 2022), third-most (163, 2024), and fourth-most (155, 2023) single-season service aces in program history.
In her first season in 2022, Gonzaga defeated a ranked opponent for the first time in program history, a 3-2 reverse sweep of No. 22 Pepperdine inside the Martin Centre.
Across the three seasons under Wilson, the Martin Centre saw an uptick of fans at all home matches. The most recent two seasons saw an average increase of over 100 fans per match from their prior years. On Nov. 13 of this season, Gonzaga saw its largest home crowd since 2019.
"I am grateful for Katie's dedication to our program and University," Gonzaga Athletic Director Chris Standiford said. "Katie is a great person, and we wish her well."
A national search to fill the head coach position will begin immediately.
