Box Score SPOKANE, Wash. – The Gonzaga men's tennis team hosted the University of Montana earlier today in a nonconference dual match. This is the sixth consecutive year the Bulldogs and Grizzlies have faced each other, with Gonzaga winning four of the last five matches.
In the doubles competition, Gonzaga jumped out to an early lead when
Matthew Hollingworth and
Sasha Trkulja picked up a 6-3 court one victory against Montana's Guillermo Martin and Fernando Perez. The victory improves Hollingworth and Trkulja's dual doubles record to 3-1 this season.
The remaining two doubles matches were amongst the most competitive of the season, both requiring a seven-point tiebreaker to determine a winner. In the No.3 spot, Montana tied the doubles competition when Moritz Stoeger and Baltazar Wiger-Nordas defeated Gonzaga's
Gus Krauel and
Tom Dunlop by a score of 7-6. Gonzaga clinched the doubles point when
Leon Roider and
Pablo Gomez Galvan earned a 7-6 win over Montana's Tom Bittner and Chris Zhang on court two.
The Zags expanded their lead once the singles competition began, as Gonzaga freshman
Oscar Rashed claimed a 6-0, 6-2 court five victory over Zhang. With the win, Rashed now boasts an impressive 4-1 dual singles record on the year. In the No.4 spot, Gomez Galvan defeated Martin by a score of 6-4, 6-1. Gonzaga clinched the team victory on court one, as Trkulja earned a 6-2, 6-3 win against Perez in dominant fashion.
Montana earned their first team point of the day on court three, as Bittner defeated Roider by a score of 7-5, 6-3. In the No.2 spot, Hollingworth continued his excellent season by clinching a 6-4, 7-5 win against Wiger-Nordas. In the final singles match of the day, Dunlop battled, but lost to Stoeger by a score of 6-1, 2-6, 7-6 on court six.
Up next: Following today's victory, the Gonzaga men's tennis team will begin an eight-game road trip, starting with a match against the University of Washington on February 25th at 5 pm. The Zags will finally return to the Stevens Center on March 29th, when they are scheduled to face Saint Mary's at 2 pm.

Records: The season record for Gonzaga improves to 3-2 with the win. For Montana, the loss drops their record on the year to 5-1. The historical record between the Bulldogs and Grizzlies also moves to 9-9.
