SPOKANE, Wash. – Gonzaga men's and women's track released their outdoor schedule for the 2024 season on Tuesday, a slate that features five meets in Spokane at Whitworth, one at nearby Washington State, and six more down the West Coast in Oregon and California. New to the schedule this year is a trip to the Drake Relays in Des Moines, Iowa at the end of April.
The outdoor season picks up just a week after the conclusion of the NCAA Indoor Championships, with the Zags competing at a pair of meets just a few miles north at Whitworth. The Sam Adams Classic (March 16) and Buc Scoring Invitational (March 21-22) have been regular stops for the GU track programs for over ten years, with both the men and women seeing program top ten times throughout.
The Zags return to Palo Alto and the Stanford Invitational once again on March 29-30, where
Kristen Garcia set a new program 10K record last season and a handful of runners earned personal bests. Over the next two weeks, Gonzaga will be back at Whitworth for their Peace (April 5) and Twilight (April 11) meets while a group of athletes travel to Azusa, Calif. for the Bryan Clay Invitational (April 11-13), another staple in GU's outdoor schedule.
A short trip to Pullman is next on April 19 for the Cougar Classic before a busy week at the end of the month. Both squads will compete for the first time at the Drake Relays April 24-27, while the men send a few of their own back down to Palo Alto, this time for the Payton Jordan Invitational on April 26. The women will also send some of their athletes to Corvallis, Ore. for the Oregon State High Performance meet April 26-27.
The final stretch before the NCAA Prelims and Championships sees a trip to Eugene, Ore. for the Oregon Twilight meet. The Zags will get a chance to compete on the track that will play host to the NCAA Outdoor Championships just one month later. A final meet at Whitworth on April 8, and a trip to the Portland Distance Carnival on April 11 concludes the regular season before the NCAA West Prelims April 22-25 in Fayetteville, Ark.
The outdoor season will wrap up two weeks later back in Eugene as the Zags look to send a few of their top runners back to Hayward Field to compete against the nation's best.
