SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. – No. 16 Gonzaga won the West Coast Conference 2023-24 regular season title outright on Feb. 17, going unbeaten in Conference games, and secured the No. 1 seed at the 2024 Credit Union 1 WCC Basketball Championship. Top-seed Gonzaga and No. 2 seed Santa Clara were each awarded triple byes as the Conference announced the full women's championship bracket on Sunday.
The women's opening round on Thursday will feature eighth-seeded San Diego (8-21, 4-12) battling ninth-seeded Pepperdine (5-24, 1-15) at 12 p.m. PT.
No. 5 seed Pacific (16-13, 8-8) will play the winner of San Diego/Pepperdine on Friday, March 8, at 12 p.m. PT, followed by No. 6 seed Saint Mary's (13-17, 6-10) and No. 7 seed LMU (10-18, 5-10) on Friday, March 8, at 2:30 p.m. PT.
Portland (18-12, 10-6) and San Francisco (14-15, 10-6) tied for third place in the WCC standings at 10-6. Portland secured the No. 3 seed with its win over Santa Clara in the second tiebreaker rule. San Francisco (0-2 vs. SCU) is the No. 4 seed. Portland, defending WCC champion, is coming off a 12-point win over LMU and will take the court for the first time on Saturday, March 9.
Both the Bulldogs and the Broncos will advance to the semifinals on Monday, March 11. Gonzaga (29-2, 16-0) is riding a 23-game winning streak, which is the second-longest active winning streak in the country. Santa Clara (24-7, 12-4) closed the regular season on a nine-game winning streak.
The 2024 Credit Union 1 WCC Basketball Championship will be held from March 7-12 at Orleans Arena in Las Vegas. The first four rounds of the women's championship will be televised on ESPN+ while ESPNU will televise the championship game.
