SPOKANE, Wash. – Earlier this afternoon, the Gonzaga women's tennis team hosted #7 Pepperdine in their final home match of the regular season.
Starting the match with the doubles competition, Pepperdine jumped to an early lead when Liza Zaar and Jasmine Conway claimed a 6-2 court three win over Gonzaga's
Brooke Bittner and
Lia Espinal. Shortly after, Gonzaga tied the doubles competition on court two, as the freshman duo of
Emily Robertson and
Ella Nielsen defeated Pepperdine's Nikki Redelijk and Vivian Yang by a score of 6-4.
In the No.1 spot, Pepperdine's Savannah Broadus and Janice Tjen clinched the team victory by defeating Gonzaga's
Kianna Oda and
Tiegan Aitken by a score of 7-6. Entering today's doubles match, the pairing of Broadus and Tjen was ranked #2 in the country for doubles.
Moving to the singles competition, Pepperdine expanded their lead when Yang clinched a 6-0, 6-2 victory against Gonzaga's
Caroline Wernli. Shortly after, #13 Broadus picked up a 6-1, 6-1 court three win over Nielsen. Pepperdine officially clinched the team victory in the No.5 spot, as Conway defeated Bittner by a score of 6-2, 6-1.
Gonzaga continued to battle in the remaining three singles matches. On court one, #52 Tjen defeated Robertson by a score of 6-1, 6-4. Despite the loss, Robertson went 1-1 in her matches against ranked singles opponents this weekend. Later on, Aitken battled, but lost to #94 Campana by a score of 6-3, 6-2. In the final remaining singles match, #14 Zaar earned a 6-3, 6-3 victory over Oda on court two.
Up Next: The Gonzaga women's tennis team will travel to California next weekend, as the Zags are scheduled to face San Francisco on April 19th at 11 am. The Bulldogs will play their regular season against Santa Clara on April 20th at 12 pm.

Records: Gonzaga's season record moves to 7-13 with the loss. For Pepperdine, the victory improves their record on the year to 13-6. Entering today's match, Gonzaga had won their previous nine Senior Day matches, a streak dating back to the 2014 season.
