BROOKLYN, N.Y. -- Brynna Maxwell became the seventh player in Gonzaga history to be drafted by the WNBA on Monday night, as the Chicago Sky took her in the second round with the 13th overall pick.
She will become the ninth player from the Zags to sign with an WNBA team. She joins former Zags Courtney Vandersloot, Vivian Frieson, Kayla Standish, Katelan Redmon,
Haiden Palmer, and Jill Barta as players who have been drafted into the WNBA.
"I'm humbled and honored to be a part of this draft class," Maxwell said. "Thank you for the Chicago Sky for believing in me. God is so good and he deserves all the glory for this."
Maxwell played two years at GU and received All-WCC First Team honors both years. In her first year at Gonzaga, she led the nation in three-point percentage for the majority of the year and finished the season with 87 threes.
During her final year as a Zag, she made a three-pointer in every single game and finished the year with a record-breaking 95 threes, the most in school history. She finished her career with 1,979 points and 377 three-pointers while shooting at 42.7% from beyond the arc.
The Chicago Sky will begin their season on Saturday, May 4, against the Minnesota Lynx.
Lisa Fortier on Brynna Maxwell & Kaylynne Truong being drafted: I am so happy for Brynna and Lynne. They have put in a tremendous amount of hours working on their game, and it's so exciting to see their hard work pay off. I know that they will make a great impression when they get to their respective cities. As a coach, it is such a joyful moment when you see these players reach their goals.
