Bulldogs and Bears Draw in Berkeley, 1-1

Ewers scores equalizer in the 58th minute

Box Score BERKELEY, Calif. – Gonzaga women's soccer drew even at California Thursday, 1-1. Erin Ewers scored her first goal for the Bulldogs, tying the match in the 58th minute.
 
The Zags (0-1-1) had an 11-10 edge in shots but controlled the chances with an 8-3 advantage in shots on goal. Ewers capitalized on her one shot, finding the net for the first time this season. GU forced Cal's Kelly McManus into seven saves. Amelia Severn took a match-high three shots for the Bulldogs, with all three on frame.
 
After a scoreless first half, the Golden Bears (1-1-1) opened the scoring in the 50th minute. Alexis Wright found the back of the net with an assist to Velize King.
 
Ewers' goal came eight minutes later, and Severn was credited with the assist. Lauren Towne finished with two saves in the GU net.
 
Gonzaga plays its first home game of the season Sunday against Kansas State. The second-ever meeting between the programs starts at 12 p.m. The game will be broadcast on ESPN Plus, with live stats on GoZags.com.
