Box Score LAWRENCE, Kan. – In the first-ever meeting between the programs, Gonzaga women's soccer held off Kansas on the road Sunday, 1-0.
Lauren Towne was exceptional in the Bulldog (2-2-1) net. The senior made five saves and punched away several crosses to keep the Jayhawks scoreless. With Towne's impressive saves and a stingy GU defense, the Zags picked up their second shutout of the season.
The lone score in the match came from Gonzaga's
Erin Ewers in the 59
th minute. The Spokane native scored for the second time this season after chipping a shot over the Kansas goalkeeper.
Amelia Severn recorded her first assist of the season.
The Jayhawks (2-1-2) were handed their first loss of the season, despite outshooting GU 19-4. Kansas had a 5-3 edge in shots on goal and 7-6 advantage in corner kicks. Sophie Dawe had a pair of saves in the Kansas net.
