Emelia Warta broke the program record with 13 shots in the setback.
Warta's 13 shots were also the second-most in a single game in West Coast Conference history. Portland's Vanessa Talbott holds the record of 14 set in 2000. Warta's 13 shots are the most in the league this season. She had four shots on goal in the match, including one off the post.
The Aggies (5-3-1) were outshot 21-12 by GU, with the Bulldogs having a 10-4 advantage in shots on goal. Gonzaga (3-3-1) had plenty of chances, with two shots hitting the woodwork, and possessing the ball for 51 percent of the match. 65 percent of that possession was spent on the attacking side of the field. NMSU had a 5-3 edge in corner kicks.
New Mexico State's Sydnee Johnson scored her first goal of the season in the 13
th minute. Shila Rasoul was credited with the assist.
Both teams took eights in the first half, but the Bulldogs were relentless in the second half with a 13-4 advantage in shots. GU forced the Aggies' Valerie Guha into nine saves.
Lauren Towne had three saves in the Zag net.
Gonzaga is back at home Sunday against Utah Valley at 1 p.m. The Wolverines (3-4-1) fell at UC-Davis Thursday, 3-0. Sunday's match will be broadcast on ESPN Plus with live stats on GoZags.com.
