SPOKANE, Wash. – In their final non-conference game of the season, Gonzaga women's soccer picked up an impressive 3-1 win over Denver at Luger Field Thursday.
The Zags' (4-4-1)
Amelia Severn finished with two goals and an assist in the victory. GU held possession for 54 percent of the match. The Bulldogs outshot the Pioneers 15-9, with an 11-6 advantage in shots on goal.
Gonzaga led 3-0 at halftime after Severn's first goal in the 17
th minute. Less than three minutes later, Severn played a pass through the Denver defense to
Emily Todd for the second goal. Severn's second goal of the match, and the season, came in the 31
st minute off an assist from
Paige Alexander.
Liv Moritz found the back of the net for the fourth time this season for DU (6-4-0) in the 52
nd minute. Jordan Crockett and Megan Murray were both credited with assists.
Lauren Towne made five saves in the GU net, including stopping a penalty kick in the 36
th minute. Alina Santos finished with eight saves for the Pioneers. Severn and
Emily Todd both took a match-high four shots.
The Zags have off until their West Coast Conference opener at Oregon State (2-6-0) on Sept. 28. The match will be broadcast on ESPN Plus, with live stats on GoZags.com.
