SPOKANE, Wash. – Gonzaga men's soccer closed their non-conference schedule with a 1-1 draw against CSU Bakersfield at Luger Field Saturday.
The Bulldogs (6-2-2) enter West Coast Conference play with the second-best overall record in the league. GU picked up its second straight draw in an evenly played match with CSUB.
The Zags outshot Bakersfield 10-9, with both teams having three shots on goal. The Roadrunners had 52 percent of the possession in the match and had a 6-3 edge in corner kicks.
Gonzaga took a 1-0 lead into halftime after an own goal by the Roadrunners in the 32nd minute. A ball played into the box was deflected into the CSUB net.
Bakersfield (2-2-2) found its equalizer in the 65th minute. Bogart Roca crossed a ball into the box and Joey Velasquez headed it in.
Zenden Hart made three saves in the CSUB net, while Chema Preciado had two for Gonzaga.
The Zags open their West Coast Conference schedule next at Loyola Marymount (2-3-2) on Sept. 28 at 7 p.m. The game will be broadcast on ESPN Plus, with live stats on GoZags.com.
