WBB Wins Big Over Santa Clara, 82-56

Yvonne Ejim surpassed 2,000 career points

SPOKANE, Wash. — Maud Huijbens had another career day with 23 points and 10 rebounds to lead the Bulldogs to an 82-56 win over Santa Clara.

Huijbens led the team for the second-straight game to break her previous career-high of 19 points, set from the previous game. Her 10 rebounds also gave her a second-straight double double performance. 

With 19 points today, Yvonne Ejim surpassed 2,000 career points to become the fourth Zag in women's basketball history to reach the mark. She also nearly had a triple double with 10 rebounds and eight assists. Claire O'Connor rounded out the double digits scoring efforts with 11 points as she scored the most three-pointers today with three.

The Zags closed out the first half with a 14-2 run to claim the 43-31 lead going into locker rooms. Huijbens lead the team with 10 points and grabbed six rebounds. Ejim dished out a team-high five assists while also grabbing six rebounds and scoring seven.

Gonzaga shot at an impressive 66.7% from the floor in the opening half and held Santa Clara to 38.7%. GU also grabbed more rebounds, 18-10, and scored nine points off of SCU's turnovers.

The Bulldogs outscored Santa Clara in the final two quarters to maintain their lead the entire game and went on their largest scoring run of 16-0 in the third quarter.

Huijbens went off in the second half with 13 points after going 6-for-7 from the floor. Ejim also scored 12 herself and went a perfect 4-for-4 from the charity stripe.

Gonzaga stopped Santa Clara by only allowing 26.7% shooting and forcing six more turnovers in the second half. The Broncos also only made one three-pointer in the second half as the Zags won the rebound battle, 21-19.

Overall, GU dominated on both sides of the ball. The Zags shot 53.7% from the floor and 81.8% from the free throw line. Defensively, Gonzaga held SCU to just a 32.8% shooting performance and outrebounded the Broncos, 39-29. The Bulldogs also dished out 21 assists, compared to SCU's seven.  

Notes: Ejim has scored double digits in 59-straight games. She has now scored 2,003 points in her career and only needs nine more to move to third of all-time in scoring at GU.

-Maud Huijbens recorded her career-best performance with 23 points. This also marked her second-straight game of having a double double.

- Ejim is now third all-time in rebounds with 956. She needs 28 more to pass Kay Koppelman's 983 rebounds set from 1987-91.

- This was GU's 23rd-straight home victory over Santa Clara.
