DENVER, Colo. – The Gonzaga men's tennis team closed out the Denver Cup on Sunday with a strong showing in singles play, highlighted by four wins against Grand Canyon to finish the fall tournament on a high note.
After dropping all three doubles matches, the Bulldogs rebounded in singles. Giovanni Branchetti earned a straight-set victory, 7-6 (3), 6-3, while Jay Fairclough battled back for a 2-6, 7-6 (5), 6-2 win. Tom Dunlop also came from behind for a 1-6, 6-3, 6-1 result, and Oscar Rashed outlasted his opponent in a 5-7, 6-4, 10-6 battle.
In additional singles competition versus Montana State, Diego Herrera fell 6-3, 6-4, and James Hutchinson dropped a 6-2, 6-3 match.
The Zags return to action at the Gonzaga Invite, set for Nov. 7–9 in Spokane. Branchetti and Fairclough will also represent Gonzaga at the upcoming ITA Sectionals.
