SPOKANE, Wash. – Gonzaga women's tennis continued its strong play on the second day of the Gonzaga Invite, with six Bulldogs advancing to the semifinals in their respective singles draws on Saturday.
Emily Robertson led the way with a convincing 6-3, 6-1 victory in her quarterfinal matchup, while Rose Hayes also moved on with a steady 6-3, 6-3 win. Elizabeth Tindera battled through a tight three-setter, rallying for a 4-6, 7-5, 10-6 win, and Ella Nielsen cruised to a 6-0, 6-0 sweep to punch her ticket to the semifinals. Karla Brown came from behind to take a 1-6, 6-2, 10-8 victory, and Sveva Zerpelloni narrowly fell 6-2, 7-6 (1) in a competitive quarterfinal.
In consolation play, Diana Yanotovskaya earned a 6-2, 6-4 victory, and Madeleine MacNeille posted a strong 6-2, 6-2 win to advance. Savannah Johnson dropped her match 6-1, 6-1, while Brooke Bittner fell 7-5, 6-3 in a tight battle.
In doubles, the tandem of Emily Robertson and Ella Nielsen picked up a 6-2 semifinal win, while Rose Hayes and Sveva Zerpelloni also advanced with a 6-3 victory. Savannah Johnson and Madeline MacNeille came up short in consolation quarterfinals, falling 6-3.
The Bulldogs will return to action Sunday for semifinal and final play to close out the Gonzaga Invite.
